I’m Creating Spaces for Black Women to Connect, Be Heard, and Vibe Out
Virtual + Brooklyn Gatheringz
Greetings Everyone,
I curating new spaces for my black female subscribers to connect with each other, share our voices, and contribute to important conversations around some of the essays I’ve written on cutting edge topics such as Gender Ideology, Sexuality, and more.
In the coming weeks and months, I will be curating some virtual and in-person spaces that are exclusive to black women—for us to connect, vibe out, and be heard / platformed in conversation with one another.
The first in-purrson gathering will be held in Brooklyn this June✨
I am dreaming up a casual Solstice gathering with deliciously healthy eats, sharing full presence, and appreciating sweet summer vibes.
I’d also like to host a virtual discussion space to discuss my article on Janelle Monae’s Non-binary Identity. This was actually a suggestion from one of my treasured subscribers who participated in our first virtual salon! The discussion will be recorded and shared with all participants as well as paid subscribers.
Both of these events are free to join and are exclusive to women of African descent who are subscribers of my blog.
If you’d like to join us, please read and fill out the interest form here.
Who This Is For:
These spaces are for black & mixed women who do not subscribe to Gender Ideology, and who also do not fit into the stereotypical boxes and established communities of people who share their perspective on this topic, which are usually either conservative, white, or both. You’re here because you:
a. Deeply Resonate with my writing
b. Want to connect with other like-minded black women.
c. Exist on the margins of other communities that you “technically” belong to.
My intention is to build a vibrant, deeply resonant community with an engaged group of women. I want these spaces to be nourishing for myself and all who participate.
So, the interest form is not just a “form”.
It’s an opportunity for you to share your specific interests and intentions, introduce yourself if we haven’t already met, and offer valuable feedback that can help me to shape the direction of these community offerings.
A Little Background…
Last year, I hosted a Sapphic WOC Space for gender-critical women of color, in collaboration with LGB Alliance USA.
Although the space had a short run, it was very fruitful and I am extremely grateful to have connected with the women I met through that space. Many of them are still my subscribers, and I want to find a way to pour into those connections a little more.
The spaces I am hosting now are really just me exploring possibilities and dipping my toes back into the water of creating a resource that I know is necessary for all of us right now, including myself.
I recognize that many of us are isolated and marginalized. I know for me, when looking for affinity spaces where I can find women I can identify with—I always have to sacrifice one thing for another.
The well-resourced black (or “BIPOC” as they call it these days) spaces are often riddled with gender ideology, since we’ve all been crammed together by the trans movement under the “oppressed” hashtag.
Then, if I enter a well-established black space that isn’t captured by gender nonsense—they’re usually very conservative or male-centered.
Then, most “lesbian-friendly” spaces are white and/or riddled with gender ideology too—and regardless of these factors, most of them are toxic in other ways.
And then we all know that gender-critical feminist communities are suffocatingly white, ignorance and racism is at an all-time high, and that acts as a natural repellant to sensible women of color.
Where do we go to speak openly and frankly about our experiences without fear of judgment for being who we are and thinking how we think?
I want us to have a space to just Be.
I want our voices to be front and center.
So I am creating my own spaces.
Because, there is no way for us to be in integrity and have to choose between integral parts of ourselves when forming connections with others. I want to create the holistically nourishing space that I and many of us have been waiting for.
Down the line I may also host spaces for women in either broader or more specific groups eg. just for Sapphic Black Women, or for women of all backgrounds.
I’m not sure yet. For now, I am starting here, because black women are my priority.
And I’d like for you to join me.
If you have any ideas for a future space, let me know in the comments.
I’d love to hear from you.
💜
Thanks for this! It is so important for Black women to have same-sex spaces, especially if we are Lesbian. I sent you an email today Saturday 6/22 about something that happened on FB yesterday. I hope you read it and respond.
Good!
