I would like to talk about how Sapphic and/or Feminist spaces—are usually, coincidentally(?), very toxic, and how navigating these spaces, being who I am, has helped me distinguish my values and affirm what is most important to me.

All of sapphic spaces I’ve been to this summer, have inspired me to write this piece.

It would happen, that every single time I saw a flyer for an event that either featured, or was well-populated by black lesbians—the event was filled with liquor, smoke, weed, and tobacco. A couple of months ago, I wrote about the first event that I went to. Within that, I noted how conceptually beautiful the space was, and how much it saddened me to see sapphic women not being able to find joy without substances.

But when I saw this dynamic again and again, at a daytime Block Party, and a First Saturday event at a world-class Art Museum—events that were popular amongst Black Sapphic women—I noticed a pattern. And, I learned a few things about myself.
