Transmen & Studs who Blossom into Straight, Feminine Women
A Black Woman shares her Detrans story
Yesterday, I came across this amazing video of yet another black woman who has openly shared her FTM detransition story with the world. Brizee’s story was heartfelt, honest, and artfully done. As a filmmaker with a background in documentary, I was happy to see that she chose to give voice to her healing journey through Art. As of now, this is the first-ever documentary I’m seeing that focuses on (or even one that includes) a black woman with a detrans experience. All of the films I’ve seen that include detrans women, only feature white women. I’m proud of her for telling her story. Go check it out!
Brizee’s story was a little different from that of many black detrans lesbians who I’ve highlighted in the past—in the sense that within her de-transition, she discovered her authentic self as feminine, and she also discovered that her lesbian identity was rooted in trauma, and a fear of being with men. She has since opened herself back up to dating men. Brizee also stated in a different video that she never saw herself getting serious with a woman, and that she would like to have several children one day.
This brought up so many things that I’ve been thinking about for a long time, about the phenomenon of some detrans women, who, in re-identifying as women, also revert to a traditionally feminine presentation, i.e. wearing makeup, dresses, long hair, etc.
It also made me think about the phenomenon of women in the lesbian community, who dress masculine and/or exclusively date women due to trauma. You know—the stuff we never want to talk about!
