How I Am Cultivating Financial Wellness & Freedom as an Artist
My Journey to Growing Wealth and Financial Security $1 at a Time.
Learning how to build wealth & financial stability through the specific lens of how I can get started as a self-employed Artist who doesn’t (yet) have a ton of consistent, disposable income to dump into a savings account, much less the stock market…and who, at times, has barely been able to rub two nickels together—made me feel like I can do it too.
I’ve been diving deep into the waters of personal finance lately.
When I say deep, I mean books on investing, budgeting, and estate planning are my new boo.
They are the first thing I read when I wake up and the last thing I lay my sleepy eyes on before bed.
I enthusiastically devote time each day to organizing various accounts, laying the foundation for new budgeting practices, carefully choosing investments, and planning for my future.
I spend hours researching and crunching numbers just for funzies (I love applied math!) and soaking up every bit of information I can put to good use.
Suddenly, it feels like my world is opening up. It feels like I’m taking the reins and getting clear about this part of my life in a way I never known how, or felt privileged to touch.
It’s something about winning this housing lottery, cutting the very last economic shackle that has tied me to lifelong abusers, toxic relationships, and hurtful homes.
It’s knowing that I am entering a phase where my healing journey also requires me to resource myself in a way that allows me to protect and preserve my holistic wellbeing for the rest of my life.
Through this housing opportunity and other financial blessings I’ve received in the past year—I finally have a supported opportunity to build foundations for true sovereignty, security, and liberation—on my own terms.
I know that I’ve been gifted with the chance of a lifetime.
My latest obsession is me running off into the sunset with my own greatest possibilities.
But this is just the climax of it all…I’ve been flirting with personal finance for a while now.
In the future, I’d love to share my favorite educational books on finance, and the healthy fiscal habits that have been working for me.
For now, I will share my journey of how this big world of finance and investing has been made accessible to me as a low-income Artist, some gems I have learned thus far, and the changes I’m making to move closer to my dreams.
